The Web Applications and Systems Department within the Cross Media Publishing Services Division is currently recruiting for an organized and hard-working individual to assume the position of Junior Web Developer for a 1 year contract. This position is based in the Don Mills office.
JOB SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for the development and upkeep of the websites and e-commerce catalogues for the educational divisions (Higher Education & School).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Construct and maintain websites (static and dynamic in various formats)
* Assists in the design, coding, and testing of technical systems
* Actively participate in the maintenance of e-commerce catalogues across different platforms
* Manage the company intranet
* Coordinate the development and production of various features and promotions
* Apply optimization measures
* Participate in research and development projects
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Diploma or degree in web technologies or digital media with 1-2 years progressive experience as a webmaster or web developer
* In-depth knowledge of (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
* Hands-on experience coding to web standards
* Hands-on experience with basic image editing skills in Photoshop
* Hands-on programming experience with PHP and mySQL
* Hands-on experience customizing open source CMS applications, for example WordPress and Joomla
* Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux
* Knowledge of industry trends and best practices for usability, accessibility, as well as SEO
* Knowledge of best practices for web programming, QA processes, and version control
* Understands basic relational database concepts
* Hands-on programming experience with CGI/Perl and ColdFusion are assets
* Basic knowledge of XML and XSLT are assets
* Knowledge of Flash, Flex, FlashBuilder are assets
* Highly organized and energetic self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Thorough attention to detail
* Ability to take charge of solving a problem, from beginning to end
* Adaptable and innovative team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
